That would be a nice email to open, wouldn't it? UnHeard Radio wants to not only tell you, but rather show you how to make that email a reality on October 10th, 2009 5:00 P.M. EST. Brad Turk, founder of MyMusicSite.com (E-Distribution), former owner of an independent label, and Mark Tower, founder of the UnHeard Network (UnHeard Radio, UnHeard Promotions, UnHeard Bookings, UnHeard Beats) are hosting a online workshop to not only tell independent artists, but rather show them how to increase online sales of their music. We will also have an independent artist that has sold (not given away, or free. SOLD) over 2,000 downloads talk about how he did it. Although 2,000 isn't much, it's more than the average independent artist will ever see unless they are shown how.Pre-Registration is open now. Only a 1000 attendees can attend. If you are serious about your music, and want to know how the pro's push online sales, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

As you've probably heard by now, the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) recently approved a royalty rate hike for all internet radio stations that play ASCAP & BMI registered artists on their stations. The general consensus among internet radio station owners & operators is the rate hike will effectively end web stations' ability to stay afloat financially; as a result, internet radio stations will cease to operate, reducing variety and choice in music on the internet. 1. What does all this mean to the indie artist? For the majority of indie artists who aren't concerned with receiving royalties from radio play, the decision to raise royalty rates might contain a silver lining. Any indie artist seeking radio play, and is willing to waive royalty claims, is actually at an advantage over other artists looking to receive royalty payments. Indie artist looking for the benefits of exposure and not money will most likely receive preference over ASCAP/BMI -registered artists from reviewing web stations. 2. But won't web radio stations go out of business? Web stations that play strictly indie artists and not major artists are not subject to royalty payments, assuming the station secures a royalty payment waiver from the artist. Of course, no major label is willing to forfeit royalty payments from radio stations - therefore, web stations will be less inclined to play artists from major labels. 3. How will web stations make money, if they don't play major artists that draw all the traffic to their site? The notion that a web radio station must play known artists to succeed in drawing traffic to their site is false. Many stations are able to draw heavy, consistent traffic to their sites by playing undiscovered new talent for fans looking for fresh, original music. This holds true for every genre, from indie rock to world, soul, hip-hop, new age, jazz, classical, punk rock, metal, electronica, and every other conceivable genre and sub-genre in the music spectrum. Web stations & sites will continually look for new ways to bring traffic (and revenue) to their sites. Some sites offer to sell items for artists, such as CDs, downloads, and T-shirts. Other sites offer premium services to artists, including booking, recording, & representation. Still other sites use royalty-free artists on their stations to promote and develop a non-music businesses & sites. 4. So is this royalty rate hike a good thing for the non-registered indie artist? Well, no. Many independent web radio stations with modest advertising revenue prefer to play known & unknown artist in their rotations, and any rate increase on royalty payments is a hefty financial burden. Write your congressman at http://www.house.gov/writerep/ in support of keeping down royalties rates for internet radio broadcasters. So, trying to get airplay on stations that will pay royalties is actually going to hurt you. Internet stations are going to pick artists that waive royalty payments. Paying for airtime is not unmoral or unjust. It's a service, just like anything else you use to promote yourselves. Submit Music To UnHeard RadioOther sources:http://www.savenetradio.org/http://www.petitiononline.com/SIR2007r/petition.htmlhttp://webcastersunite.net/http://getontheradio.net

Do you have music for sale? Free advise on how to sell it

I'm sure some of you are thinking, GREAT, another email from this Mark guy. Well, I make money in the music industry and I help others make money in the music industry. It's really that simple :)I'm sure you have your music for sale somewhere. Maybe on iTunes, CD Baby, MyMusicSite, etc...If you do and want to promote your album sales. Do this:REMOVE all your songs from MySpace or anywhere else you have them streaming. Pick the best part of your songs and edit the songs to 45-90 second samples. (If you start off giving away your music, you will ALWAYS give it away and never make a penny on it) UnHeard Radio will edit a song for you for $10.00. Email support@unheardradio.com with your MP3's you want edited. If you do not have your music for sale somewhere, GET IT ON A SITE THAT OFFERS FREE SERVICES TO SELL YOUR MUSIC. ( UnHeard Radio will become a E-distributor in the months to come) www.mymusicsite.com is a really good FREE site. Especially for ringtones.Paste links to purchase your music after people hear your SAMPLES, not full length songs.People will buy your music out of curiosity. #1 Marketing tactic, create curiosity and people will spend money.STOP GIVING AWAY YOUR MUSIC THIS WILL INCREASE YOUR DOWNLOAD SALESDid you know there is software that records your streaming music and people will never have to pay for it? Don't believe me? I can connect to ANYONES MySpace page and record their music as it is streaming through my soundcard. It's not hard. Have a sample up, and it stops people from STEALING your music.Next. Spend a couple bucks advertising your music just like any label or company would advertising their product. You do not have to advertise on UnHeard Radio. Pick sites that bring people that are seeking NEW music like UnHeard Radio. If you would like to advertise on UnHeard Radio to sell your music with banner ads. You can, and very easily. We have a system where you can upload your ads at EXTREMELY cheap advertising rates (we have kept in mind the typical broke musician or artist). We provide ads based on Impressions, Cost Per Click, and Time Length Ads. Simply visit our site and click on Advertising. Not that great with Graphics? http://mybannermaker.com/ is a free website to make banners. Now, I have told you how to start selling more MP3 downloads. It's up to you to act on it.
A ton of people have asked about this.First. If you are paying for airtime - our normal rotation process is on override and you are in regular rotation 24/7.Ok.We use a weighted rotation. Meaning each song has a weight (rating) from 0-1001-9 No Rotation10-19 Rare Rotation20-39 Light Rotation40-59 Medium Rotation70-79 Heavy Rotation80-100 - Power HitGuess what determines what weight a song holds? You guessed it, how many unique requests a song gets from your fans! Each time a song is played - it is dropped 0.5 points. Each time a song is requested, it increase 2 points. Even if a request fails because your song has been recently played - it still counts. So all the artists that do not have the request images or do not promote the station - if your not paying, your probably not getting played as often as you would like.. We know who you are - because everything is tracked. The next email about requests is going to show how many requests artists are getting. If your not on the list - your not getting requested.Point is - PROMOTE. Guess what happens when your song plays and a 1000 people are connected that have never heard of you? THEY ARE CURIOUS. After all - they are visiting a station they know only plays independent artists. THEY ARE SEEKING NEW MUSIC. They will probably want to know more about you.Put the fact you on are UnHeard Radio on all of your websites, blogs, etc.. Tell people!! It impresses them and creates word of mouth. If you are serious about making it in this business - sit back and think about how much time you may waste during the day. What could you of done to further your career? You have to live, eat, and breath promotions. Think of new ways to promote, track your promotions, if something inst working whether you think it's a great idea, drop it. Try something else (Marketing 101).I get UnHeard Radio a million hits a month. I know what I'm talking about. We provide all kinds of ways to promote yourself, fact is - YOU have to do it. DO NOT rely on anyone to do it for you.My time is extremely valuable to me. If you would like a consult on pushing your music beyond your imaginations- $50.00 gets you 30 minutes of my time. Have a pen and paper ready - I'm going to provide you a ton of information everyone else is scared to tell you. They do not make money if they tell you how to do what they do. Just reply to this email and we can schedule a time after you send payment.Ya, I have a day job just like all of you. I'm a marketing consultant. I charge companies $400/hr and they pay it. I'm also a musician and I like helping other musicians. But they need to be accountable for their future - so it's not free. These kind of responses are kind of disappointing. Look..why should the artist pay you to play their music on your radio station ????...If you like some artists and their MUSIC...then play there music for free !!!!!!!!....basically you are forceing MUSICIANS to work for you and you charge them 19.. bucks a month !!!..and you wont play their music if they dont sighn up....and also your site is very confusing...to many codes..and to many things to do..MAKE it simpler already !!!! YOU choose us through SONICBIDS...so JUST play our DAM CD..ALREADY..cause i aint paying YOU !!! - We sent you a promo code so you were not charged. Judging by your grammar and spelling - you probably did not read the email.I think that any radio station that is about talent should not be about money. All local radio stations do not Charge any artist to play their. In all honesty I do not understand why any radio station would. Without the music to play there is no radio station. - UnHeard Radio is a promotions service disguised as a radio station. The model works. We provide you content - I love this oneFirst of all, you provide us content? Ok. Let's think a minute here. A commercial artist provides content to a commercial radio station. Guess what that commercial artists has that you do not? FANS! - Millions of them. They bring a commercial radio station millions of fans and then that radio station charges companies a fortune to spread there advertising to them. You have millions of fans? Let us know, we will pay you royalties.Second, did you really think the cost of playing music stopped at buying equipment and recording? If you did - quit now.Third, not be about money? Do you have any clue how much it cost to have the bandwidth needed to provide streaming audio at 128kbps (CD Quality, FM RADIO is only 64kps)? 10 people connected is a meg per second. Most of you do not have internet connections to support having even 10 people connected. How much does your internet bill run you? How much do you think ours runs to support unlimited listeners with burst connections?I know an artist right now that has spent half his paycheck on his music for the past 3 years. Guess what he has and you don't? Almost a million die hard fans. Think it was worth it? Sure you do -but are you willing to sacrifice your luxuries to do that?UnHeard Radio is a service to independent artists. Our players and pretty much everything we do is designed to get you album sales. Guess what - ALBUM SALES PAY MORE THAN ROYALTIES WOULD.This email piss you off? Good, act on it. I really do not care. I'm interested in working with artists that are not "know it alls" and want to get somewhere. Would I steer anyone wrong? No. You do well, We do well. Plus, I'm an independent artist myself - I have a life - a girlfriend (pretty much a wife) that is constantly pissed at me because all I do is promote you people. She wants more attention, sigh... I hope it's worth it - or I'll probably be murdered one day.The bottom line is, PROMOTE your music or get out of the business, unless this is just a hobby.I'm sure most of you spend more than $19.99 per month on soda. But dread at spending $19.99 a month to put your music in front of the biggest audience you will probably ever have. I don't get it.http://www.unheardradio.com/airtime.aspx - for the serious artists.Mark TowerUnHeard Radiowww.UnHeardRadio.com

Want your music in front of 90,000+ people that seek independent music? (READ Now)

Email blasts are great - people receive an email about you, probably with a picture and links to your websites. But, can they hear the music right then and there? No, they cannot. Which creates an extra step, and let's face it. Most people do not click on the links in an email. Why? Well, they think it could install something on their computer, or they are just plain lazy.UnHeard Radio has something that allows them to hear your music right then with no worry of having to install anything or worry about people that are too lazy to click on a simple link and it's permanent. The people we send stuff too trust us as well. They subscribed and want to hear what we have to offer. What is a Podcast? (Technical Definition)A podcast is a digital audio file (usually MP3 or AAC) made available for download on the internet through an RSS 2.0 feed. The web address of the media file is contained in the enclosure tag of an item in the XML file. The enclosure tag was added to the RSS 2.0 standard in 2004 making podcasting possible.A podcast's RSS feed is updated each time a new media file is published. An aggregator for podcasts (such as iTunes or iPodder) is used to subscribe to the RSS feed. The software automatically checks for and downloads new audio files. The file can then be synced to a digital audio player. It is the convenience of this subscription model that sets podcasting apart from other audio available on the internet such as streaming and audioblogging. Podcasting makes it easy to create and disseminate digital audio content across the web.The enclosure tag can be used to any type of digital file, but not all aggregators recognize and download all file types. Vidcasts have started to emerge on the internet distributing digital video files.Podcasting offers a variety of content for listeners to consume how they want, when they want and where they want.Hopefully this definition contained enough big words to make it a sufficiently techie definition of what is podcasting? Are you impressed?Ok, hopefully you understand what a podcast is.UnHeard Radio has over 90,000 subscribers to our podcasts and it increases on average a 100 per day. Those subscribers automatically receive your MP3 ,Pic, Bio,Websites, and Contact Info Podcasted to over 90,000 + subscribers. Here is a screenshot of our stats page on podomatic.com [image]Now - when a publisher (UnHeard Radio) let's an advertiser (Company) put content on our podcasts, we charge them the industry standard of $50.00 CPM.What is CPM?CPM is a term used for every 1000 views/downloads/impression views in the advertising world. So basically, we charge companies $50.00 per 1000 people that listen to our podcast. So - basically we charge them $4,500 to send out anything to our 90,000+ subscribers.Ok, so what does this mean for you?We only charge independent and unsigned artists an affordable $99.00 to gain access to the same people advertises spend thousands to get too.Why do we make it so cheap for independent artists? Our goal is to expose you to the world.Remember to help promote UnHeard Radio. The more people that know about us, the more people will know about the artists we broadcast.Toolbar[image]Have you checked out our new toolbar yet? It does all kinds of neat stuff like let listeners tune in from anywhere, request your music, check emails, etc.... This toolbar increased listenership so much - we had to increase our bandwidth to our servers. If your not broadcasted - get broadcasted by visiting http://www.unheardradio.com/airtime.aspxWant your music on the podcast? Visit http://www.unheardradio.com/airtime.aspx and click on the podcast option.

Email blasts are great - people receive an email about you, probably with a picture and links to your websites. But, can they hear the music right then and there? No, they cannot. Which creates an extra step, and let's face it. Most people do not click on the links in an email. Why? Well, they think it could install something on their computer, or they are just plain lazy.UnHeard Radio has something that allows them to hear your music right then with no worry of having to install anything or worry about people that are too lazy to click on a simple link and it's permanent. The people we send stuff too trust us as well. They subscribed and want to hear what we have to offer. What is a Podcast?
[image] One of the potentially greatest in the music industry has passed and the sad thing is, that it did not have to come to this.. This is really a terrible shame and a true waste of talent…. Before we get into that, I want to share a story with you, just really quickly. The story that I am about to tell you is so weird that I still think about it to this day, sometimes several times a day… And reflect on how much it has changed not only my life, but the lives of 99.9% of the top players in the music industry today…. Including many of your favorite artist. One day there was a huge, I mean huge *Secret* music industry meeting held, that attracted the attention of thousands of musicians, singers songwriters, label heads and others from around the world. It was one of the most fascinating events that most of them have ever attended, one where they learned the real deal on establishing industry connections, song writing, signing record breaking contracts, the formula to a guaranteed platinum song (yep even in this day of downloads) and most important to most of the attendees, they learned how to make millions, upon millions of dollars… And that was all on the first day (It was a 3 day event). Then the next day starts, and all of the attendees ae excited and looking forward to being taught more of the same great information that had learned the day before, but to their surpriss when they entered the room that the event was held the day before, they where greeted by a huge 100 foot x 100 foot sign that read… “Yesterday, the person who has been hindering your growth in the music industry has passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared next door.” In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that person who hindered not only thier growth, but the growth of everyone else who desires to make it in the music business. Who could it be they wondered? The excitement in the makeshift funeral home was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room. The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up. Everyone thought - “Who is this person who was hindering my progress?” One by one the intrigued group of artist, musicians and executives got closer to the coffin, and when they looked inside it, they suddenly became speechless. They all got to stand near the coffin, and all ended up shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul. There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see themselves! There was also a sign next to the mirror that said: There is only one person who is capable of setting limits to your growth and IT IS YOU!Your life does not change when the head of a major record label changes, when the A&Rs change, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your husband or wife changes, when your location changes, when your money changes, when your status changes. No, your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs. Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don’t be afraid of difficulties, impossibilities and losses. Be a winner, build yourself and your reality. It’s the way you face life itself that makes the difference. You will never know what life has in store for you, unless you try. You could end up being the next, best music industry great… Don’t let that person within you die.. I would hate to see that funeral take place, especially when you know deep down inside that you deserve greatness.. The world desreves greatness, greatness in the form of your music and your talent. Make a vow right now, today to change, to challange yourself to be the best that you can be.. To limit the amount of time that you waste doing unproductive things or spending with time stealing individuals, to limit the amount of money that you waste on things that are not making you more money in return and then make a vow and say to yourself that “I Will Do Whatever It Takes to Make My Dreams Become My Reality”…. And the last step, the most important step is to actually do waht you just said in the the sentence above… Start off be getting the right help, their are tons of resources that you can get access to right here online or start with some of those that we provide, including the following; Learn to Write Hit SongsLearn How to Get Your Songs Played on the Radio(World Wide)Discover the Truth to Getting More Gigs and Performance RequestStart Your Own Record Label and Really Be IndependentProtect Your Music with the Correct Legal Forms and Music ContractsGet the Phone #’s and Mailing Address to Over 20,000 Music Industry Contacts Visit every signle one of the websites above, you will never know what oppurtunities await you, unless you are willing to give them a chance to present themselves.
IS MP3 Id Tags Important?

Since were all adults here, I'm going to say HELL yes! For example, all the information displayed on our players come from the MP3 tags. If it's incorrect, then people don't know who you are, what the name of the song is, etc.. Plus, when people download your MP3's, you can include things like your website address, etc... So, MAKE SURE YOUR MP3'S ARE TAGGED CORRECTLY!Here is a free tool that seems to work perfectly for doing just that - http://download.cnet.com/Mp3-Tag-Tools/3000-2170_4-10073195.html Thanks!

Well peeps, I have been fighting off bugs and more bugs from the network since Day 1, and I think I finally got rid of most of them.I know the broadcasts have been randomly dropping, but I think I finally have everything working correctly and the feeds should continue to run normally. Unless a server decides to blow up (which could happen), lol. Thanks for being patient and understanding that this is a start up and were working as hard as we can to make everything smooth. Mark

Spelling? Does it matter?

Have you ever read an article riddled with spelling and grammatical errors? Chances are that you have, and that it affected your perception of the source. While some may argue that their mistakes are not that big of an issue, research tells a different story. According to a survey completed by GooseGrade.com, 65.3 percent of respondents stated that their perception of an author, blog, or website is negatively impacted by spelling and grammatical errors, while 64.2 percent are less likely to share, link to, or forward an article to a friend if it contains spelling or grammatical errors. So – what does this have to do with you and UnHeard Radio? Think about how much information is provided in a single UnHeard Radio profile. As an artist, you include your name, bio, headline, genre, and so much more for industry professionals to view. If that information contains even simple errors, you may be turning away potential connections that could offer bookings to you. As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression.Fortunately, there are easy solutions to this problem. Utilize the spell checker in your word processing program before posting any information in your profile. If you do not have a spell checker, there are several free programs available online. You can also ask friends or bandmates to proofread for you. It is amazing how many mistakes a fresh pair of eyes can find, no matter how carefully you check your writing. And with your UnHeard Radio profile free from errors, your talent can truly shine!

Layoffs now at the World’s Largest Label

According to information leaked Friday by Silicon Alley Insider, Interscope Geffen A&M, part of the world’s largest record label Universal Music Group, is now responding to the weakening music industry and overall economy with its own round of layoffs. In response to the Insider’s post, a UMG representative confirmed the downsizing vaguely, stating that layoffs are taking place at various UMG units. At this point, details have not been confirmed and reports provide conflicting information. According to anonymous sources, Billboard reports that roughly two dozen employees were let go on Friday, mostly in mid- and entry-level positions. The A&R-focused blog Crazed Hits says that layoffs were focused on marketing and publicity, while industry publication Hits Magazine reports that marketing executive Robbie Snow and Paul Orescan were let go.The downsizing comes ahead of highly anticipated releases by Dr. Dre, Eminem, U2, and 50 Cent in the next few months. These artists are some of the biggest money makers in the industry, just as Interscope is one of the most-respected labels. But hard times are now hitting even the largest of companies, with layoff announcements in the past week by giants Microsoft and Sony. With little label support available, artists are really on their own these days. They must develop the expertise to manage all aspects of their business. Artist Force is here to help artists manage and build the business of live entertainment. With tools to promote, offer, negotiate, and settle shows directly with venues, promoters, and buyers, artists can do it all over a single web-based platform. You don’t have to rely on others to make you a superstar. Become the master of your live entertainment business with ArtistForce today!

'Bonnaroo 365' Launches With Raconteurs Set

The Raconteurs[image]January 23, 2009 10:55 AM ET[image]Ray Waddell, NashvilleThe Raconteurs' feverish Bonnaroo 2008 set, which is now streaming on Bonnaroo.com, will be the first of a host of content to go live on the site in the weeks to come under the mantle Bonnaroo 365."The vision of where we can take the template and application I think is going to be 10 times beyond what we're seeing now," says Jonathan Mayers, president of Bonnaroo co-producer Superfly Presents. "We're really excited to launch this program with the Raconteurs. This is really 'phase one' of where we think we can go."All footage for Bonnaroo 365 will be taken directly from the festival's master tapes, and the audio is remixed from soundboard recordings. The goal is to have a large archive of performances on the Bonnaroo site that can be accessed through a wide range of distribution channels, ultimately including user-generated content."We have over 300 full sets that are line cut, iso-cammed, beautifully shot, and lots more audio multi-track," says Mayers. "Last year we filmed about 70 full performances."Over the years, Bonnaroo has offered a variety of different audio/video programs including Webcasts, broadcasts and physical product, and Mayers says they're all "opt-in" programs."We've been fortunate that a lot of artists want to participate," he says. "At the end of the day we need artist, publisher [and] label permission to do any of these programs. All of this is about relationships, and we really have a give-and-take there. We're really open with artists as to their usage of it, because ultimately it benefits us."Financial arrangements for future Bonnaroo 365 incarnations are still being determined, but right now the value to artists comes through the exposure. Bonnaroo has an e-mail list of more than 500,000 names to tap into."We feel we could become a marketing platform for artists, not just at the event but 365," Mayers says. "We want our Web site to become '365,' so it's not just afestival Web site, but it becomes this platform with an editorial voice, expanding the brand. We view ourselves as a media company, not just a festival."Bonnaroo '09 is set for June 11-14 in Manchester, Tenn., with a lineup announcement due Feb. 3. source
